The Edinburgh Festival can be a bit of a lottery for comedy fans — big names whose shows aren’t quite up to the usual standard and bubbling unknowns selling out the entire run in the first week.
It’s with this in mind that The Blue Cat Comedy Night in Heaton Moor has endeavoured to save you the queueing, disappointment, high prices and 500-mile round trip by delivering two of this year’s most highly-rated comics to your doorstep this Sunday (September 5). Step forward Jason Cook and Dave Longley!
Comedian Jason Cook hails from Newcastle, where he learnt his craft at the infamous Hyena Comedy lounge in front of baying Geordie stag and hen parties. Ouch!
He made Manchester his adoptive home a few years ago and is a regular on stage at the city’s big comedy clubs.
He wowed the Edinburgh Fringe where, once again, he delighted audiences and critics alike, bringing home another bucketful of four and five star reviews.
His latest show The End (Part One), is based around a near death experience he had last year. The show starts with a tale from his 2009 Edinburgh jaunt when he bravely asked the audience how they were enjoying the festival so far.
“Well, we’re about to find out aren’t we?” came the reply form a German in the front row. Flying in the face of a well-known stereotype the customer announced he was “satisfied” at the end of the hour.
Attacked by punter: Dave Longley
Derby’s Dave Longley started his career in an ill-fated troupe known as Gagstars. On his second gig he was attacked by a punter who took exception to a point he was making. Dave no longer appears with Gagstars.
One of the most original and creative acts on the circuit, he is at the Blue Cat for the first time.
The show starts at 7.45pm prompt and comes complete with guest acts and compere.
