Charity bash will raise cash for Forever Manchester
By Dean Gate
BACK for a second year, The Mirror Ball promises a star-spangled party that celebrates all that’s Manchester with some of the city’s favourite faces.
This year raising money for Forever Manchester, the event at The Lowry Hotel on Friday, March 9, will be hosted by celebrity hairdresser Andrew Barn and compered by TV presenter and actor Anthony Crank.
The Mirror Ball was originally created last year by Andrew as a way of celebrating his 30th birthday and his recovery from a brain tumour.
In its inaugural year The Mirror Ball raised over £10k for Brain Tumour UK and George House Trust.
As a newly appointed Forever Manchester Ambassador, Andrew has chosen the community charity to be the sole beneficiary of the event in 2012.
This year the event will include a glamorous red carpet, cocktails on arrival, a three-course meal, plus after-dinner entertainment from soul diva Angie Brown and Manchester-based X Factor and Fame Academy contestant Carolynne Poole, wife of Stockport County player David.
Manchester businesses have come together to supply a host of prizes to be won via a live auction and raffle.
Prizes already confirmed include a beauty hamper sponsored by House of Fraser Manchester, dinner for four at The Grill on New York Street and an overnight stay at The Lowry.
Andrew said: “Last year’s event was hugely important to me personally and whilst this year is no less important it has become more about this city and what I can do for the people I share it with.
‘Stylish and sexy’
“I was thrilled to be invited to become an ambassador for Forever Manchester as I know I can use my experiences, both good and bad, to help others as they find their way through life.
“I was surprised to learn how many lives the organisation touches on a daily basis and will be proud to be the driving force behind an event that can in turn support them by raising loads of cash.
“So I hope that the stylish and sexy of Manchester will come out in force to support such a fantastic cause and, of course, enjoy a fabulous night to remember.”
Forever Manchester is the charity for people with a passion for Manchester. It raises and distributes money to support local people and groups trying to make a positive change in neighbourhoods throughout Greater Manchester, groups and projects that would otherwise struggle to get off the ground or simply cease to exist. Forever Manchester awarded £2.7 million in grants to 872 community groups in 2010/2011.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased individually or by tables of 10 or 12. Individual tickets are priced at £65 per person; tables of 10 can be purchased for £600 and 12 for £720.
The event will be at The Lowry Hotel on Friday, March 9: red carpet and drinks from 7:15pm, dinner from 8:00pm.
